OMTA Launches Ohio Marine Careers

The Ohio Marine Trades Association (OMTA) developed ohiomarinecareers.com in partnership with
Great Lakes Community Action Partnership (GLCAP) with an initiative to increase the awareness of
marine trade careers in Ohio and offer valuable resources for technical education and training
throughout the state. The marine industry is particularly broad in terms of job opportunities, and there is
a proven need for skilled and qualified tradespeople. OMTA and GLCAP are here to inform and inspire
individuals to explore the Ohio marine trades.

The Ohio marine industry is experiencing exponential growth as recreational boating and water lifestyle
activities are becoming more prominent. In fact, the boating industry in Ohio directly employs 20,300
people and has an indirect impact on an additional 25,400 jobs in other businesses. From high school
and college students seeking summer employment as dockhands in marinas, to experienced and
fully-certified professionals working as mechanics, assembly experts, sales personnel in dealerships,

Ohio Chamber of Business – Lake Erie

Ohio legislators and business leaders gathered in Sandusky, Ohio for the biennial policy conference
hosted by the Ohio Chamber of Commerce. On Thursday, August 10th, 2023, the Ohio Marine Trades
Association (OMTA) took great pride in sponsoring the recreational boating activity. The exceptional
event was made possible through the contributions of OMTA members and staff, who graciously
donated their time, expertise, and, most importantly, boats to ensure the afternoon’s success. An
expression of gratitude goes out to the following OMTA members for their invaluable resources:
Catawba Moorings, Clemons Boats, Pier 53 Marine, South Shore Marine, SkipperBuds, and True North Yacht Sales.

The conference activity drew approximately 20 lawmakers, among them key figures from House and
Senate leadership, alongside prominent community leaders representing Shores and Islands Ohio,
Cedar Fair, and others. Adding to the event’s prestige, a former Lt. The Governor of Ohio was in
attendance. The day was filled with exploration of the attractions that Lake Erie has to offer, including
captivating exhibits on Put-In-Bay as part of Lake Erie Awareness Day.
